St. Julie's Bible Study Ministry:
An
exciting & engaging film study!!!
A History Channel documentary, "The
Exodus Decoded," showcases
archeological evidence that the events in the
book of Exodus actually happened just as they
are described in the
Old Testament. In other words, the
filmmaker's position is that Exodus, including
the
10
plagues and the
parting of the Red Sea, is literally,
historically true.
There is, of
course, another community of biblical scholars
which believes that Exodus consists of mostly
folk tales. This group does not recognize that
there is any archeological evidence that
substantiates the story of Moses.
So which group
is right?
That's for us to decide. We are planning to
bring the film to our 9/10 meeting. Then, we
can decide as a group what we'd like to do
next. Here are some possibilities...
-
We could go through the book
of Exodus chapter by chapter (starting the
following week), just as we have gone through
other books.
-
We could dedicate an evening
to exploring the arguments for and against the
documentary and its premise.
-
Or we can simply move on to
another book, and another subject…
It's really up
to us - that is - it's up to you!
We need members of the group to volunteer to
lead us through a
book of the Bible of your choice, perhaps
another one of the
minor prophets.

Bible Study -
Ministry Description
Ministry Purpose:
To help people understand the
Sacred Scriptures.
This is attained by approaching the scriptures from an historical
and
theological background. This includes the history, culture,
religion, and
philosophies of the peoples of the ancient Near East. Before we
begin
a new book of the Bible, we discuss the following topics:
-
Who wrote the book
-
When was the book written
-
For whom was it written
-
What was happening in history at
the time the book was written
-
Why was the book written
-
What style/styles of literature
was used by the author(s)
-
What was the author’s intent
and/or message
