The Mission of Small Christian Communities at St. Julie Parish is to
share God’s Word in a safe, nurturing, non-judgmental environment,
to challenge each other to grow, to reach out to others,
and to live The Word in our every day life."

A Small Christian Community (SCC) is a group of eight to fourteen adults
(and at times children) who gather in homes to discuss their lives
in the light of the Gospel and to share their Christian Faith
through prayer, friendship and service.

Although each SCC is unique in its membership and style of gathering,
all communities are involved in the following six elements of church:

  • Community – we gather together.

  • Prayer – we gather around the Word of God and offer thanks and praise.

  • Life/Faith Sharing – we share the Word and how it affects our lives.

  • Mutual Support – we offer one another the support that is needed to live as Christians.

  • Study – we seek to grow and develop in understanding our faith and our God.

  • Outreach – we reach out to make a better world.

Our forefathers and foremothers in faith gathered themselves into house-based
small Christian communities long before the institutions of parish or diocese
even existed. Today, Christians all over the world are again gathering in the
same manner – into small Christian communities.

Our vision is to develop Small Christian Communities within our diversified parish
of St. Julie Billiart.

You are invited to be a part of this exciting and ancient model of church.

Representatives of each SCC meet monthly to keep in touch with each other,
to share how their community is doing, to learn new ways to bring the Word of God
to each other, and to receive information about coming events in the parish and diocese.

The meetings are the first Monday evening of every month, and are held in the
workroom from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.

Currently, there are eight groups that meet at least twice a month, in the morning
or in the evening, during the week or on Saturday mornings. There are men’s groups
and women’s groups, as well as a couple’s group.

If you are interested in joining an existing group or in forming your own new group,
contact the Center for Parish Life (226-3595).

You need not make a long-term commitment. New groups often make short term
commitments at seasonal times, like during Advent and Lent.
